People don't go to the movie theater for the social interaction, or even the popcorn, they go for impact, and most of all, the emotional involvement.

What's interesting is that with all the press about the expanding home office, the reality is that executives aren't designing home theaters with the capability of e-mail, file sharing or even Internet access. They are choosing to leave this far behind. Busy executive's build home theaters, not to interact with people, they go to tune out the absolute frenzy of the day.

Until recently, home video has compromised that involvement. Movies are about escaping - the higher the performance, the higher the level of believability and the higher level of escape. That's what movies are. It's an escape, It's a chance to get away, a retreat to a sanctuary. And the more effectively the movie is portrayed, the more effective that feeling is.

Today, we can re-create the experience of the movie theater, without all the disadvantages of parking, location or inconvenient show times. You can go to the den or living room and have it look better, sound better and experience it in the comfort of your own home whenever you want.

IT STARTS WITH SOUND
Movie enthusiasts will tell you, great sound makes up for a smaller picture, much better than a bigger picture with small sound. Sound is what makes the movie believable. It has always been about the sound. It wasn't too long ago that we listened to shows on the radio. The clarity of the dialog and the realism of the soundtrack and sound effects make the experience plausible. Accurate sound creates the interest and excitement, and cements the realism. Home theater then, is the combination of high quality sound with high quality video.

AND ENDS WITH A PICTURE
Home theater for most of us came into being with the HI-FI VCR. What it had was a high-quality soundtrack. What it didn't have was a high-quality picture. DVD changed that, and to a large degree established the media for the large television screen. With high-definition television already available in the central Ohio market, high-definition movies and sports yield visually stunning results. We have entered a new age of visual clarity. Building a home theater with a 10' screen is not only possible; it's now desirable.

DECISIONS, DECISIONS
There are so many different formats, options and features, it's no wonder that everyone gets a little confused by the amount of choices. Don't be mislead by companies promising the latest technology that is light, small and cheap. Just as we experienced with high quality stereo equipment decades ago, we enjoyed great sound for years and years. Quality electronics really haven't changed; great sound, great pictures and reliability doesn't come cheap.
